The Drowning Pool in Mackinac Island, Michigan:The…

The Drowning Pool in Mackinac Island, Michigan:

The #DrowningPool is the name given to a small #lagoon located between Mission Point and downtown #MackinacIsland where seven women who were accused of practicing #Witchcraft during the 1700’s and 1800’s were put to trial. According to #historical accounts, the suspected #witches were strapped to a wooden chair and lowered into the lagoon as a test; if the suspect floated, they were believed to be guilty of Witchcraft and sentenced to #death. Of the seven women who were put to trial at The Drowning Pool all of them were proven to be #innocent, but were tragically drowned in the process. Now pedestrians walking along the nearby Dennis O. Cawthorne Shoreline Trail report encountering #apparitions and #ShadowFigures which appear to emerge from the depths of the lagoon at night. Others report hearing the sounds of disembodied screams, or feeling a strange presence, as if an unseen #entity is lurking nearby.
