Creepy Dolls Displayed to Appease Dead Girls Spirit

Located just south of Mexico City, there is an island called Isla de las Munecas, also known as The Island of the Dolls. It can be found in the canals of Xochimico, and on this small island you will find it covered in macabre dolls, hanging from trees and lines to try and appease the spirit of a little girl who died there.

The area has now become somewhat of a tourist attraction with thousands of people visiting it each year, to see the hundreds of terrifying dolls with their severed limbs, decapitated heads, and blank eyes.

The dolls are scary even in daylight, but at night, in the dark, they are particularly disturbing.

The story starts with a little girl who drowned in mysterious circumstances many years ago on this island and her body was found by Julian Santana Barrera. Later he claimed he could hear her tormented screams and footsteps in the darkness.

Soon after, he found a doll floating near where he had recovered the body, so believing that it had belong to the dead girl, he hanged it from a nearby tree as a sign of respect.

Later Julian began to hear whispers and footsteps, then came the anguished wails of a woman in the night, even though his shack was hidden deep inside the woods of Xochimico, miles away from any neighbor.

Driven by fear, he began hanging all the dolls he could find to protect himself from what he believed was the ghost of the dead girl, who had come back to haunt him. He then spent the next 50 years hanging dolls in the woods in a desperate attempt to ease her spirit.

Julian lived a hermit’s life, all alone in those woods until 2001 when his nephew found him dead, drowned in the very same canal where he found the dead girl.

Locals who have visited the island says that the dolls have been known to move their heads and arms and even opened their eyes.

Some witnesses even claimed that they heard the dolls whispering to each other, while others who near the island by boat claim that the dolls draw them to the island.

Some believe that there never was a little girl, while others believe Julian was driven mad because he was unable to save her life.

What ever happened there long ago it still haunts the island to this day.
