Young Boy Killed in Witchcraft Ritual

A 35 year old man has been arrested in Pokuru, Andhra Pradesh in south east India after he kidnapped a 5 year old boy and then cut off his head in a ‘witchcraft ritual’.

Tirumala Rao, 35, is aid to had grabbed the boy from a nursery inside a health center and carried him back to his house.

Once there, he performed a prayer ritual, then cut off the helpless boy’s head and he collected the blood in a jar, before sprinkling it all around his house.

The gruesome dead was only discovered when the boys mother, L Adilakshmi, went to pick him, only to find him missing. With the help a family friend who said she had seen Rao take the child, she went to Rao’s house with a group of villagers.

There she found the beheaded body of her son in the corner of one room and his head in the other corner, next to the jar of his blood.

The group then tracked down the accused, tied him to a pole, doused him in kerosene and set him alight. As they lynched him the suspect was heard to have said he could bring the boy back to life.

Local police recued him and he was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition.

According to the local paper, the accused’s brother, Venkata Rao, said Rao had tried to attack him with a sickle in the past, and his wife left him because she could not put up with his odd behavior.

Superintendent of Police Ch. Srikanth said, “This is a first-of-its-kind incident in Prakasam district.” He added that the accused had a reputation in the village of keeping ties with practitioners of tantric rituals, and had on Tuesday night made an unsuccessful attempt to abduct an 18-month-old girl.

“Once he recovers, he will be subjected to questioning after an examination of his mental condition by a psychiatrist.”
