Shades of Death Road is a haunted road in Warren Country, New Jersey. The road is known for folklore and urban legends surrounding it. Sightings of ghosts on the side of the road or in the woods nearby are very common. Spirits of the dead, covered in fog are seen walking around or on the Ghost Lake near the road. The Fairy Hole is a cave in the woods near the road that is rumored to be a significant site for the Lenape tribe, and filled with archeological remains. Another location near the road is an abandoned farmhouse near Lenape Lane. The house is rumored to be haunted and people see apparitions walking around it at night. Legends say that a white orb will chase cars down Lenape Lane and that seeing it is an omen of death. Another version says a red orb will fly along the side of the car causing the driver to crash into a tree. Another legend says that if a car stops at the top of Old Mine Road and flash their lights two ghost children will appear. Shades of Death Road is a unique stretch of land with various legends. No one is sure how it got it’s name. Some suggest it has to do with highwaymen, murder, malaria or that car accidents are not uncommon on the road
