Heavy Static

caffeinated-whatever submitted:

When I was a kid my sister and I shared this big grey boombox. Mostly we used it to play Kelly Clarkson and thought we were super cool. We hardly ever used the radio function because the only stations we could get out in the middle of nowhere were public radio and the local country station. We kept it sitting on the floor next to our bunk beds when we weren’t using it.

One night around probably eleven, we woke up to loud, heavy static and what sounded like several people talking over each other. After a moment of confused panic we realized that the boombox was on. My sister cowered in her bed and insisted I turn it off. As I fumbled with the controls in the dark I realized that it was still set to CD, the volume controls only turned the voices up rather than down, and it wouldn’t turn off. After hitting the power button over a dozen times it finally turned off.

At that point our parents had come downstairs and were standing in the doorway. They demanded to know what was going on. In the middle of my explanation there was a sound like glass shattering on a tile floor. My parents left the room to search out the source. No broken glass was ever found.

After that I could hear scratching sounds in the bedroom walls as I tried to sleep. It was like something was trying to break through. The sounds continued for weeks before suddenly disappearing.

Fuck Yeah Nightmares Mod James: 8/10 Ooh, that’s spooky. Thanks for sharing the scares!
