Ghosts at Ferris State

tetrahedral-cathedral submitted:

I moved into my college dorm at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan in the fall of 2012. There are rumors of paranormal activity on campus because of a fire that took out much of the buildings in the 1950’s, but I experienced it first hand.

I was in my dorm trying to get back to sleep after being woken up by the creaking of the bathroom door opening. I figured it was just one of the girls from the next room.*

*Side note; the dorms at Ferris are set up where two rooms are connected by a bathroom. Two people per room.

It was a hot night for September but I felt a chill in the air. I flipped over to face the bathroom door, then remembered that our rooms didn’t have air conditioning.   My hair stood on end. Then I saw it. The door was moving back and forth very slowly on its hinges. I froze there, thinking of anything that could possibly be causing this, but nothing came to mind. This happened every so often for the next few months. The door would move or shut on it’s own, I heard whispers right next to my ear when I knew everybody was asleep, and the lights flickered. After a while it seemed to stop.

Fast forward to April 2013. At around 7:30 p.m. on the 17th, I was talking on the phone with my boyfriend. My roommate was awake and in the room as well. I was sitting on my bed looking at the wall where my minifridge and microwave were. The fridge sat under the microwave, and the microwave was stacked with my makeup and hair products. I jabbered on about my day and classes, but in mid sentence I lost my breath. My hairspray can was wobbling around in a circle. When I realized I wasn’t breathing, I exasperatedly demanded Holly turn around and see what was happening. When she whipped her head around, the hairspray can came to a complete stop. I again tried thinking of reasons why the hairspray can would be f***ing spinning on its own, like a draft, or the fridge running, but when we shook the fridge to imitate its movement while running, all of the hair products moved, not just the hairspray. There is still not explanation.

This does not appear to be a mean ghost. It gives off an intense, playful energy. It’s still an off putting feeling, but it’s not completely terrifying. I wish I could have had more experiences with her. She seems like a nice girl. It’s such a shame she had to pass on so early.
