Ghost Pirate Willy Wilcox seen near Plymouth

John Dyer was holidaying in Polperro, Cornwall, and of course he brought along his camera which he put to good use as he snapped away at the beautiful scenery on the South East Cornwall coast.

It was only later when looking through his pictures did he spot what appears to be the ghost of the notorious pirate named Willy Wilcox.

This is the first time that anyone has captured an image of this elusive spirit said to be haunting the area where he died.

Legend has it, that this 18th Century smuggler was on the run, and was last seen hiding in the area’s underground caves.

And he was never seen again, so it was believed that he became trapped by the rising tide and drown there.

If you look hard, you can just make out two hands along with a head, and a distinctive eye-patch, which he is said to have worn.

Mr Dyer, from Hampshire, who snapped the photo said, “I was down there for a few days visiting my parents as they were down there for a week, we’ve visited Polperro every year since I was was born in 1981 through to 2002.

“It was great to see the old sights again as we’d not been down there for quite awhile, and even more so seeing possibly the pirate ghost of Willy Wilcox, a story which as a child equally fascinated me as it did scare me.”
