A couple years ago I moved into an old apartment building in New Jersey (rent was really cheap). I heard another tenant say this place was haunted and I assumed that was a jab at the landlord. I didn’t really experience any “hauntings” per se, but I did hear creaking (again, it’s an old building) and at weird times things just got cold, even in the summer. I assumed it was a ventilation problem.
About a couple months in, I had fallen asleep on the couch and it was around 2 am when I woke up. I woke up because I was freezing and it was sometime in late April. I even had a blanket on me. I shuffled around a bit to try to get more comfortable, when I saw, above the foot of the couch, a face. A tall figure was staring right at me, I assume he must have been wearing black, because all I could really make out was his powder-y pale pale face and dark eyes and all-too-happy grin. I fucking leapt off the couch and banged my knee on the coffee table and when I was able to flick on the wall light, the face was gone. I was alone.
I didn’t want to talk about it with the other tenant.
James: 8/10 Maybe it was the landlord working on his own schedule. Thanks for sharing the scares!
