A vengeful brother, a faceless adulterer, a pack of ill-tempered albinos. Nebraska is home to several terrifying spirits. Here are seven places to find them.

Seven Sisters Road (Road L) – Nebraska haunted road nebraska

The gruesome legend goes like this: a man got into a terrible argument with each of his seven sisters. In a rage, the man then led his sisters, one by one, to separate trees near their home and hanged them to death. Now, travelers on the road report all sorts strange activity, including failing headlights, stalling engines, and screams that echo in the night.

The Speakeasy – Holdrege

Legend has it a ghost named Faceless Fred haunts the Speakeasy restaurant in Holdrege. During the Gold Rush, Fred was a married man who preferred the company of other women to that of his wife, Jane. The furious Jane eventually got revenge by killing the straying Fred and slicing off his face. The murder reportedly happened where the Speakeasy now stands, and today Fred makes his presence known by hurling pots and pans to the floor and trailing after pretty young waitresses.

Robber’s Cave – Lincoln

Originally known as Pahuk Bluff, Robber’s Cave was once a sacred meeting site for the Pawnee Indians. Perhaps that’s why residents heard chants and the beating of drums, long after the Indians were gone. Reports of screams, moans, and muffled voices were also common. The cave was sealed for several years, but now Blue Blood Brewery sits over the entrance and offers tours to the curious.

Forest Lawn Cemetery Chapel – Omaha

A large black mass reportedly haunts the historic chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Those who spot the shadowy being feel horribly ill and notice an odd tingling sensation, as if electricity is coursing through their bodies. One investigator recorded an EVP ordering her to “get out.”

Olde Main Street Inn – Chadron

A pair of ghostly siblings named Anna and Jack reportedly haunt Chadron’s historic Olde Main Street Inn. Odd events include slamming doors, disembodied footsteps, and water glasses that move on their own. Legend has it Anna occasionally appears in a bright red satin dress.

And that’s not counting the “Stairway to Hell,” a set of steps that changes form depending on who’s walking up or down. Visitors also hear screams and moans in the middle of the night.

Witch’s Bridge – Grand Island

The notorious “Witch’s Bridge” is reportedly haunted by a woman burned at the stake for witchcraft. Legend has it that an evil force causes cars to stall on the bridge, and that stranded motorists hear a woman sobbing.
