The Watching Shadow

This happened several years ago and still unsettles me deeply when I remember it. I put my then, six-year-old daughter to bed. Above her bed was one of those circular windows. Anyways, a few hours later, while I was in bed getting ready to go to sleep, I started hearing tapping at my windows.
I got up and opened the blinds to see nothing. I tried going back to sleep but I had the uneasy feeling there was something or someone lurking outside. I would hear little noises that could have been anything, but I was getting paranoid. So I got out of bed and looked out my window again. I couldn’t see anything in the darkness.
I had a strange feeling so I snuck into my daughter’s room. I felt myself get instantly chilled when I saw what looked like the shadow of a person’s head and upper torso looking down at my daughter from outside her circular window. My daughter was still fast asleep.
I turned on the lights quickly and yelled, but as soon as the lights were on the figure disappeared. What scares me is that my daughter’s room is on the second floor and has no balcony outside of it.
